"Il progetto di Carmine Mauro Daprile appartiene di diritto a quel filone della fotografia definita fotografia allestita, un tipo di fotografia che è andata sempre più affermandosi a partire dalla metà degli anni Ottanta (ma che ha radici lontane nelle messe in scena surrealiste e dada del periodo delle avanguardie storiche) e che si nutre di finzione anziché basarsi sulla presa diretta di realtà già esistenti. Ma con una particolarità. I cosplayer che egli colloca in queste immagini non sono figure vestite, truccate, architettate dall’autore delle immagini, ma dalle persone stesse: esse si presentano alla sua attenzione già allestite. Di rimando, l’ambiente, che non è stato invece allestito ma è reale, pare a sua volta inventato e messo in scena per il fatto stesso che accoglie queste figure".

"Daprile’s work rightfully pertains to the genre referred to as staged photography, a type that became increasingly popular as of the mid-1980s (though it harks back to the Surrealist and Dadaist mise-en-scènes of the historic avant-garde period) and that feeds on fiction rather than tapping into existing realities. But with one distinctive element. The cosplayers he uses in these pictures are figures that have been dressed, made up and structured not by the author, but by the people themselves. They stand before him already staged. In turn, the environment, which instead has not been set up but is real, appears to be invented and staged by virtue of the fact that it accommodates these figures".
